It questions what it is to ‘be desired’ in this world and if products we are being sold define who we are. The male voiceover is contrasted with a day in the life of a woman in a small town in Central India, we question what she is seeking in her life, is it perfume?
Ankita Anand is a moving-image artist based in London who works around the themes of the technological uncanny and documentary film. Originally from India, her work is influenced by her upbringing in a contrasting environment which helps her gain a unique perspective on the world we live in. Shifting from documentary to fiction, her videos feel strangely familiar yet unfamiliarly strange.
