STAYING WITH THE TROUBLE is an encounter, a power struggle, a tale of dependence and control. It follows a Kazakh berkutchi (eagle hunter) as he attempts to tame his wild eagle, Sadak, and be accepted as his own. This centuries old tradition finds a new meaning in the film – it is unearthed as a prism through which we can approach anew the power relations in the world, underscored by two polarising viewpoints: crisis of borders and a state of digital hyper connectivity. When all communication systems break down, all we are left with is touch, and onto the world we offer up our bodily interpretations, forever oscillating between the states of submission and control.
